I am one of the rare people who read the original Jumper when it was first published. It was an excellent work of science fiction and was very enjoyable. Later there were two more books written in the series and they were just as excellent.
So there was no question that I had to go see the movie when it came out. I even read the horrible reviews on Rotten Tomatoes...
So I am just back from seeing it with my wife - who did NOT read the books. She poked holes in the plot on the way back over and over. She NEVER does this with movies. The movie was 88 minutes long (way too short to develop decent characters), and skipped over so much stuff from the book it was like I wasn't even seeing the movie based on the book.
In fact I wasn't... They changed so much stuff from the book to the movie that it may as well have been called something different. I would name it "garbage". It's a movie you don't even want to rent or watch on your On Demand... wait til it hits HBO or ShowTime and then wait until you have time to waste..
Keep in mind I LOVE science fiction. I read several books a week. I see tons of movies - many bad. But this was just done so poorly that it left a terrible taste...
