New research confirms what many frustrated women have long suspected: women have a harder time losing weight with exercise compared to men.
When it comes to exercise there are a lot of differences between the sexes. New research helps doctors give advice about the best type of exercise, how long and how intense a workout should be for a woman compared to a man.
The American College of Sports Medicine published the study that says men have a distinct advantage because they don't have to work out as long or as hard as a woman to get in shape. Men are also less likely to get hurt when they exercise.
Women can use the new information to get the results they want. While exercise in men speeds metabolism right off the bat, a woman's body reacts to exercise like a short term starvation and metabolism slows down to preserve weight, but only for about two to three weeks. That means women have to start exercise and stick with it. Stopping and starting is not good.
Women also burn more fat with longer sessions of exercise that are less intense. So if a woman can go a minimum of 30 to 45 minutes at a clip, they will drop pounds.
Because of hormone fluctuations and anatomy, women are a little more prone to injury compared to men, especially knee problems. The best prevention is not to do the same exercise day in and out. A little cross training is a good idea.
Women also tend to have less muscle mass than men, and since muscle burns more calories than any other type of tissue, the more muscle the better. So a little weight training is a good idea as well.
Thats absolutely a true thing!!
